2005 Awards for Excellence:
Asia Pacific
In Sydney’s Walsh Bay, within
the footprint of the former finger wharf number 6/7, the
development partnership built 140 luxury condominiums, 387
parking spaces under the waterline, and 49 boat moorings.
The complex—the only known pier in the world purpose-built
for this use—is the crown jewel of the entire Walsh Bay
development district and is a model for creative reuse of
the waterfront.

: Architects to transform two museums into one
The People’s Revolutionary Museum and the Chinese
National History Museum, which both occupy a vast
Stalinist building on the eastern side of Tiananmen
Square in Beijing, will soon merge into a single
National Museum of China. The new museum will remain in
the same home, but von Gerkan, Marg und Partner (GMP)
from Hamburg, Germany, will design a comprehensive
renovation, heralding a reinvented institution.-
