feature : 2001 AIA Honor Awards from Hong Kong Chapter of The American Institute of Architects  Each year, AIA Hong Kong recognizes design excellence in architecture and interior design for works completed by AIA member architects in Hong Kong, China and the Asia Pacific Region. This year, a new category was introduced for unbuilt design work. For the 2001 Design Awards Program, fifteen projects have been selected as winners.

An international multi-disciplined design firm, has completed design development for the 2-million-SF, five-level Peace Plaza Shopping Center World in Dalian, China. Developed by Dalian Peace Plaza Co., LTD and Genghiskhan International Group, China’s newest retail/entertainment destination is expected to be completed in Spring 2002.

Plan on seeing much more from these talents -- and we can say we-knew-them-when. The international jury was hard-pressed to select winners for the ar+d awards 2000 from more than 700 entries from over 60 countries. In the end, it was decided that the ฃ10,000 prize should be divided among three winners, and that 12 entries would be cited with High Commendations.

The brief for the architects was to design a building that was capable of providing for the needs of Reservoir into the future - a building that reflects the diversity of needs of the local community, young and old, families and singles and from a diversity of cultural backgrounds.

Los Angeles, CA—Two architects have been chosen to share the 2001 Pritzker Architecture Prize, Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron of Basel, Switzerland.  The two men, both born in Basel in 1950, have nearly parallel careers, attending the same schools and forming a partnership architectural firm, Herzog & de Meuron in 1978.
