Shin Takamatsu
wins competition for Chinese Museum
Shin Takamatsu Architect
& Associates, in collaboration with the engineering firm Mamoru
Kawaguchi, won the design competition for the National Tianjin
Museum in Tianjin City, China.
Located 87 miles
southeast of Beijing, the museum will be the second largest building
in China and is scheduled to be a part of a massive 77-acre
development in the center of the city. This area will house
administrative, cultural, and entertainment
facilitates.
Engineer/architect, Mamoru Kawaguchi is perhaps
best known for his structural designs, which include the Yoyogi
Olympic gymnasium and the Nara Convention Hall. The design submitted
by both the architect and engineer will feature a unique structural
system, derived from the sphere. The result will be a shell
structure that spans the main halls of the
area.
